Looking to adopt AA or biracial child

We have an approved home study and have been working with an agency in North Florida . Do you know of any agencies that wok with married AA couples looking to adopt AA or biracial children? We are considering working with more than one agency. Do you have any recommendations

Try A Guardian Angel in UT, Heaven Sent in MI and Heart to Heart in UT.

I’m actually going to say: Stay away from Utah! Utah’s adoption laws are “adoptive parent friendly,” which means they basically screw over expectant/birth parents, especially unmarried biological fathers. Utah agencies, including the ones mentioned above, fly expectant mothers to Utah to take advantage of Utah’s laws. Some agencies will even tell expectant mothers that they must place their babies, or they will have to pay back living expenses, find their own tickets home, and so on.

We worked with the Heaven Sent referral service. In 2010-2011, Heaven Sent the agency only worked with local families (MI). They had a separate referral service that worked with families nationwide. I do not recommend that service. We were scammed through it.

I do recommend Pact, a facilitator in Oakland, CA, that places only children of color. They are always looking for parents of color. Although I personally dislike their director, they do have a good reputation for ethics and education.

I hope this helps!

We adopted in Florida through an attorney (Hausmann and Hickman).  I also know people who adopted thorough Heart of Adoption.  And I know a family who adopted through Catholic Charities in Florida.

I agree with rredhead, Utah agencies are notorious for not respecting bio-father rights.

Best of luck on your adoption journey.

My husband and I are working with nightlight which is a colorado based agency that places nationally. So far they are so good. We’ve been working with Lifetime Agency because they give grants to AA families but located a birthmother through a family friend who is a counselor for birthmothers in Colorado.

Wishing you luck in your adoption journey.

Ever think of checking foster to adopt? I would think any agency would sometimes have a AA or biracial child. I don’t think any agency places only a certain race
