Fictive kin is a term I am unfamiliar with. What exactly does that mean?

Sorry!  Just saw your questions two months later.  Ooops!  Fictive Kin….weird term, huh?  In Texas, children can be placed in a kinship placement which simply means with relatives.  Fictive kinship is when the children aren’t actually related to the people who they are placed with but those people function as family.

Did that make sense?  In other words, like calling someone “Aunt So-in-so” when they are a family friend instead of actually being your Aunt.
