social security and adoption

i am wondering if anyone has dealt with wanting to adopt and being on social security.. ive been looking into it for a while and just dont know which agency i want to go with yet or even if its possible..

I know some families on SS due to age who have adopted older children. The children. once finalized, have the benefits a birth child would.  not have experience with someone who get SS for a disability but I imagine an agency would treat that as the family income and go from there.

My husband and I are both on SSI (plus I am on SSDI and he is on SS Retirement) and the child we are adopting will also qualify for survivor’s benefits since her biological father is deceased. I called SSA number and found out that her benefits will not affect ours so that’s a good thing but I haven’t found out yet what documentation we will have to provide to confirm her biological paternity. We are going the private adoption route, but we did call the DHS office in our area and found out that if we went through them to adopt that most likely we would be matched with an older child and not an infant due to our physical diagnoses, and as I understand it that is pretty much universal. Just as much as your income they will look at the documentation on your physical conditions to match you up with a child.
