really need some advice
My first time posting here. I’m really in need of advice. I was set to adopt last November though an agency in Arizona. I was assured it was a very strong situation, so I went ahead and signed the contract even though it said that if the adoption failed, I would need to stay with that agency or loss 50% of their $23,000 agency fee. Unfortunately, the birth mom decided to stay with the birth dad because he has been clean for three weeks. It has been six months since then and I have not been matched with any more birth moms. The agency has VERY few situations, a total of only 10 since the first of the year. To make matters worse, I am not likely to be easily chosen because I am older than 50 and I am single. Before all of this, I had my name out with seven different agencies. Now, I am stuck with this one agency that is doing nothing for me because I can’t just walk away from $12,500. I couldn’t have imagined myself in a worse situation.
My lawyer advises me that I can’t do anything about it since I signed the contract other than to beg them to reneogiate the contract.
If anyone can offer advice, I would be most grateful. This situation gets me so upset I can hardly even speak about it.
Many thanks,
reneets

Not sure about this . . . but can’t you claim the expenses on a failed adoption and get the tax credit? Might be worth checking out . . .
You should be able to claim the failed adoption certainly. I am sorry to hear this. We are with lifetime and they do over a hundred a year and we have been waiting since 2009 :( our babies are out there somewhere I an sure. They just have to be!!! Best wishes!
I am so sorry! I am a little confused—why are you not with the 7 other agencies in addition to this one?? I hope some people post good advice for you.
Hugs.
I am so sorry for what you are going through. I sent you a message privately.
Have you considered adopting a child who has already been born and relinquished or had parental rights removed by the state? A child truly in need of a good home? Children’s Services in most states would be happy to place such a child with a good parent, even one who is over 50 and single, and in adoptions of fostered children the state helps with expenses instead of charging fees.
