possible older child adoption - costa rica?

hi, i’m a 52yo single mom with a 10yo girl (adopted from guatemala as an infant).  i’m exploring the idea of adopting an older girl (7-9yo).  my first thought was central or south america.  has anyone in this group adopted recently?  do you have any advice about agencies and countries?  thanks GB

You can get a list of U.S. agencies that are currently authorized by the Costa Rican government to place children from that country with Americans by contacting:

Patronato Nacional de La Infancia (PANI)

P.O. Box 5000-1000
San Jose, Costa Rica
Tel: (506) 25230794
Fax: (506) 25230895

Always verify that an agency on the list also has current Hague accreditation in the U.S., by going to:

http://travel.state.gov/content/adoptionsabroad/en/hague-convention/agency-accreditation/adoption-service-provider-search.html.

Always remember that Costa Rica, like the U.S., has ratified the Hague Convention on international adoption, as the process will be different from what you may remember from your Guatemalan adoption.
