i am adopted

hello my name is bianca herman and when i was growing up i never knew my birthmother and then at the age of 3months i was adopted by the Herman’s and while growing up i always thought that my birth mom was on vacation and the she left me with this family until she got back from her vacation but she never came back but still i thought she would come back and as i got older it was pretty obvious i was adopted because my parents are white and cause 7 of my brothers and sisters are white also so what I’m saying is being adopted is a great thing but has alot of affects that come from being adopted like wondering where you came from and what your birth mom or birth dad is like and if u have any sisters or brothers etc but the way i feel about being adopted is i feel like there is nobody out there like me and its weird when I’m walking down the street with my mom/dad being that they are white and I’m black people look at us like they have never seen a thing like that it makes me soooo mad and when some of my friends when the found out i was adopted stopped talking to me and it really hurts to know people wont talk to me cause I’m adopted and thats my story hope you enjoyed it :0)

Hi Bianca,

Thanks for sharing your story with us and I’m sorry for how your friends treated you.  I was also adopted as a baby, and felt special and different growing up.  My family is a white but is a strong cultural family, and even though I am white also, I looked different from them in a couple of ways and kind of stood out from my family’s cultural background growing up (I am tall and they are short, and my hair was lighter growing up and theirs was dark).  My brother and I are both adopted from different birthfamilies and also did not not look like our parents, and I can understand a little of what you are sharing about.

I’m glad that you feel good about being adopted as I do, but understand what you shared about wondering about your birthparents.  I also wondered too, and when i was 34 years old I was reunited with my birthmom and we have a relationship now I would encourage you to continue to connect with more adoptees (as you did here), and also read about and connect with adoptees who has been adopted by parents of another race, as they can truly understand how you felt and feel now

Hugs,
Kris.
