how to begin the adoption journey

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am a 40 year old man looking to start the adoption process.  I’ve read all of the literature, blogs, etc, and I am slightly overwhelmed. I am hoping that somebody who has taken this journey already could point me in the right direction, perhaps to a specific lawyer or agency that they had a good experience with. (i’m open to domestic or international, but would like to adopt a healthy child between 0-5 years). I will also happily accept any general guidance or direction. As I’m sure you’re aware from your own experiences, getting one’s initial footing during this process is quite difficult. Thank you in advance. Josh

Depends on where you live. Each place has different rules. One start is to take the pride course and get a home study done. Privately if you don’t want to wait months for the one offered by Children’s aid. Also call your local children’s aid and ask for an adoption worker. Speak to the,, they will tell you what you need to do to adopt from them. Private adoption require a lawyer. Public doesn’t

first you need to decided which type of adoption you wish to pursue: domestic infant, international, foster-adopt, or domestic older child adoption. each type has its benefits and its downsides. once you have decided which type you would like to pursue, it will be easier to find an agency that deals in that type

While it is more difficult for a single man to adopt an infant, it is possible. And you have to make sure you find an agency who has placed with single men before. I don’t know about foster or international. Have you thought about surrogacy?  It is a lot more expensive but would be your safest best.

If you do decide to pursue infant adoption, I think your best bet is to work with as many agencies as you can. An adoption consultant may be able to help with that.
