Waiting for a match

I was just curious to see if I can connect with anyone adopting from Korean that is in the waiting for referral stage. We have our home study complete and have been with our agency for about 8 months now. We expect to possibly have a match in 4-5 months. Keeping our fingers crossed! I know it’s still a long wait for travel but it will be nice to see a picture of our little one. smile

Hi, Michelle,

My husband and I have been waiting 10 1/2 months for a referral for our second child.  In some ways, we’ve actually been waiting for 14 months, since our agency sends paperwork to Korea in batches, so we put in our paperwork in November 2010 but they didn’t send until last March.

We brought our son home in May 2010, and he is now 2 1/2.

We had hoped to get a referral back in November, but there have been a lot of delays, as I’m sure you know, in Korea.  We’re still hopeful to get a referral within the next few weeks.  Back in November, we were told that we are third on the list with our agency.

We are still hopeful that things will change in Korea, and these delays will fade away because our son would love to have a sibling!

We have just completed all of our paperwork and are in the waiting procresses as well.  We have requested an older child (2-3 yrs).  We were told that our waiting time “should” be shorter but know one knows how much shorter.  Looking forward so sharing in your journey!

Hi Maureen, that’s very exciting to be in the process of your second adoption. I hope you hear from them soon! You said your agency submits your profile, I think our agency may work a little differently. The way my caseworker explains it, our agency gets a certain number of referrals a month and they work down the list.

Hi Chad & Kimberly, thank you for sharing. I hope your wait time is short too. Even though the wait time is hard I am happy to be past the homestudy stage. smile

Our paperwork was sent to Korea 3/17/11.  We started the process in October 2010.  Which agency are you working with?  We are with AIAA/SWS.  We hope to receive a referral in the next 2-3 months.  I just hope that the travel call will not be a year as they are enticipating.

Hi Dana,
Our agency is LifeLink/ESWS. A large group of families were allowed to travel just this month and most of them had received their referrals Oct-Dec of 2010. I’m also hoping that a year wait won’t continue but it doesn’t seem like anything in adoption ever comes quicker. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed! Does your agency keep you up to date on referrals? So far this year, ours has only received 4, it’s slowed down from last year. I was wondering if you have seen the same thing.

Michelle
Our agency does not keep us up to date on referrals unless we call or email. A few weeks ago they wrote back and stated that referrals have been given for all families paperwork through Feb 2011. They also said that referrals are coming in very slow and they cannot anticipate how much longer of a wait we will have. I will post when we hear something. There is also a Facebook group called SWS Families for anyone working with an agency that works through SWS.

Just wanted to share the update. Our agency let us know that the Korean program put referrals on hold while they make changes to their side of the rules. I’m not sure exactly what the changes are but the referrals should start up again in August. Our agency said they should still receive the same amount of referrals as last year. This is good news because we were starting to get worried.
Have you heard anything new?

We got our match on October 24 2012. We are so excited to have a little one out there that will complete our family. Now we just have to hold on for this next years wait and our adoption journey will finally come to a happy ending. smile

I am waiting for a referral from Thailand. I know how it feels. And we are thinking of having our 2nd child from Korea.  Do you mind letting me know which agency are you using ? We live in North California.

We too are in the waiting game. This is our first child, first adoption from Korea. We are working with AIAA. I was told Korea is currently requesting adoptive parent profiles for referrals, so hopefully things will get moving for us all. We so long to see our little ones face. This part is really hard, although I must admit, waiting for travel after a match will be even harder.
Blessings all.
