New to the group - starting to research adoption

I’m new to the group…my name is Patricia. My husband and I have been researching Slovak adoption, but don’t know where to begin. Do we start with an organization in the US? Do we contact an orphanage? Do we fill out governmental adoption forms?

Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for any advice you can offer us “very” newcomers smile

I’d start with a book, i liked “you can adopt” for general info. You will work with a us agency, you wont contact an orphanage directly.. The agency will lead you through the homestudy process and to complete your international dossier. There are lots of forms, more than you can imagine. First step is to do some reading and find an agency.

and be sure what the policies are of each sending country. Are there Slovak international adoptions? what are the regulations, the fees, the availability of children, ages and sex they allow to be adopted etc.
Good luck on your journey

The US state department website does not show any adoptions from Slovakia since 2007. There was 1 in is a good resource to find agencies and waiting children. They do not have any agencies listed for Slovakia.
