Is anyone still active on this Oklahoma board

I see most message from this group are two years old. I was wondering if there are any active Oklahoma families on this website.

I’m here. I read but do not write too often.

I’m here, from Tahlequah, OK. I get the emails and read a few posts, but haven’t replied in a while, obviously! Where are you from?

We got our two youngest children from foster care in Feb. 2009, adoption finalized in April 2010. They’ve adjusted very well, but of coursed memories can’t be erased, and July 4th seems to be the most painful holiday for our son, now 13. It was the last “happy” memory he had with his birth mom, who was sober that day and led them in their little town parade:((  To those who didn’t know better, I’m sure she appeared to be “mom of the year” for a moment. I grieve for my children…  We tallk about it occasionally—hoping to do all I can, with many prayers & help from God, to help them heal.

Your story?

Becky  (I write & sing & speak about adoption, lol! Since BEFORE we ever knew we were adopting…. another God story!)

My wife and I are trying to adopt a child between the ages of 3-8. We would prefer a girl as we already have a 2 year old boy and could expand our preferences based on the child. We are a military family living in Lawton, OK.

The odds however, seem against here in Oklahoma for adopting. The process of being certified was a breeze compare to most horror stories I’ve heard. From approval to becoming adoptive family took about three months from start to finish. We started the paperwork in Dec, home study in Feb, and classes in early Mar. The waiting for an available child is taking a while though. At last state wide staffing two children met our preferences.  However after talking to our case worker we learned that over 95 families had submitted their names for these children.  I’m happy these kids have a great potential for finding the best forever family but at this point it seems like luck will be the biggest factor in us getting chosen as a family.

No statewide staffing for July however our caseworker thinks there will be a large group of available children due to the skipped month in August.

How do you find out this info from your SW. We were told we would have no contact unless we were chosen.

We haven’t had any contact with a child’s case worker. Our SW was able to tell us how many families were submitted for a child but that was all.

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I am new to this forum. My husband and I are interested in newborn adoption. We are trying to figure out where to start.

Any suggestions/forums?

We are still awaiting placement. It has been a slow process with DHS. We think we have a good range for our preference and a decent homestudy but we haven’t even made it to the interview yet. Only been informed that our homestudy had been submitted. Its been about 15 months since we started the process. We just keep telling ourselves. That when the time is right it will happen. Just be prepared for a long wait with DHS route.
