Waiting to Adopt

Hurry up and wait

Hello. We are new to this group. We are towards the end of the homestudy process and have one more day of training before we graduate. Our second of three visits for the homestudy is Friday and our last class is Saturday. Then we are done. How long after you finished the homestudy process until you found out you passed or failed?

Our social worker told us after our last interview that we were good.

You can assume you will pass.

We were told at the end of our final interview, right after our home inspection (with Bethany Adoption Services).  Best wishes!

Thank you both for responding. We are excited and really hoping we find out soon that we passed and can take our next step forward.

We did two home studies. One for domestic foster care adoption and another for international adoption. Like others have said, you can assume you will be approved.

if there was a reason you wouldn’t be approved they would have told you

Do not count on being approved. You could be denied at any moment. We were approved and after 14 months, the judge denied us and our agency abandoned us. Nothing is certain in adoption. The home study means nothing. It is just a formal document, You will find that agencies are awful and will find fault with you. You will probably lose many children before you find one and then you may not even be able to attach the child who calls you Mama and Popa. Adoption is an abusive process for children, first by the abuse by their birth family and then by the abuse by the system. Try to have bio children if you still can. Otherwise be happy with your partner and build a fulfilling life.
