How Long to Wait

I’m fairly new to putting information out there on adoption.  We’re about 3 years in waiting on the whole adoption process.  I really would like to see what everyone did in order to find their babies.  How long did the process take on the waiting?  Where are you in the waiting process?  How long did it take for those who have adopted?  I’d really like to hear all the stories.

Thank you in advance.

It took us all together 2 years to adopt our little girl when you count the time for the home study and putting together our profile. We used an adoption facilitator in CA who helped us match with our daughter’s birth mom in Illinois. If you have any questions feel free to ask

Ours took 2 months for paperwork and home study, then we waited for 5 months and put our adoption on hold because we moved across the country.  Because we moved, we had to do the home study again.  Once it was done, we waited 3 more weeks before we were matched and 3 more weeks before our daughter was born.  We used an adoption agency in Dallas, Texas.

We were very blessed to adopt twice. Both took about 13 months. The first time was through an agency and the 2nd through an attorney. We used a ton of social media for the 2nd adoption, but that brought mostly scams. Feel free to reach out with other questions. May God bless you on your journey. It is not an easy one, but most joyous when it happens.

Once we were Home Study Approved , we matched a couple of weeks later & baby girl was born a couple of weeks after that. hang in there!

We are in our Third year and ready to give up. The wait has just gotten to much to bare.

14 months from start of paperwork until our daughter was in our arms.  We used a multitude of sources, but, ended up adopting through the first agency we contacted.  Looking back, I would have waited much longer for her.  She is perfect for us!  Hang in there!

We waited 3 1/2 years from the time our profile was ready and being shown to when our son was born in August 2015. I how it feels to wait so long. It is difficult but worth it. Don’t give up, hang in there.

Are you using an agency? If so, what do they say? If not, what are you doing, exactly? An ethical agency is the best route to private adoption.

We were in process for 9 months in 2005/06 for our son, and then 19 months in 2010/11 for our daughter.

What agency did those of you with short waits use?  I am new to this whole thing.  I am from NJ.

Waiting is brutal but the right child will find you. We waited four years and two months. Horrible…but our son is meant to be ours. I would have waited longer for this special man. You can do it. Hang on to hope!

My hubby and I have been waiting with a small agenc for about 5 years. We recently walked away from our full fee to explore other routes. We had 2 failed matches this year and they have no unmatched moms in their program. We have since hired a consultant and are matched with a mom due in early May. I would tell people to either work with large agencies or find a consultant or attorney.

We waited right at 3 years for our daughter.  We finished the original home study in May 2012 and she came home May 2015.

The wait is so hard! Sending positive vibes out to you!  In 2012, we started our home study in March/April. We first matched in July and that fell through; matched again in Nov and brought home our son in Dec.  In 2014, we started our home study in September. Got called with a match in March 2015 and brought our daughter home that August.  We worked with The Adoption Consultancy and they helped to connect us with agencies that supported birth mother’s ethically and I think that makes a difference.  Good luck!

We have been waiting a year and a half so far, since the completion of our home study.  Has anyone worked with multiple agencies? We are working with our local Bethany and have have two matches where the birth mother decided to parent. Both matches occurred within a few months of our home study being completed and then we have heard nothing since. We have looked at Lifetime Adoption in California in addition to working with Bethany.  Has anyone worked with them?  Our only hesitation is the cost of working with both. Trying to wait patiently….
