Home study

This might be a silly question, but does a home study have to be from an agency specifically for Ukraine/international or can any local (Colorado) agency be good?

It has to follow all the rules of the Hague Convention as well as the rules of the Ukraine as well as have the ability to get it translated. I don’t know if a local agency without that knowledge can help you.

Your homestudy must meet the specific requirements of your state, the USCIS, and the foreign countrry.  As a result, you will need to use a provider who is very familiar with homestudies for international adoptions.

Be aware that, although Ukraine welcomes independent adoptions, the U.S. now requires all families adopting intrnationally to use a Hague accredited agency or Hague approved attorey as their primary provider, even when adopting from a non-Hague country.  That agency will review your hom3study and ensure that your adoption complies with all requirements.

For more information, go to the website of the U.S. State Department, at  in particular, see the Ukraine page, plus information on the Universal Accreditation Act and the list of Hague-accredited a7gencies and Hague-approved lawyers.
