Foster Adoption Agency recommendations in Southern California

Hi there!
Can anyone let me know about your experience with various agencies in Southern California and/or going directly through the state?

I am a single mom and I have an adopted son, who is ten, and we are hoping to adopt an older child through the foster care system who is free for adoption.

I had a great experience with Koinonia Family Services. They have a foster care program but also do the matching where they help you find a child that is ready for an adoptive home. Not all agencies are willing to help you if you want to hold out for a match vs. fostering first and seeing if a child becomes available for adoption, but they are.

Seneca is also great and they offer monthly support groups to help you in your journey. I have also heard lots of good things about Olive Crest.

If you are a person that likes a little more “hand holding” type support I would recommend going with an FFA. You do have more social worker appointments that route but they can be very helpful when navigating difficulties and getting help with services. The county route means less regular involvement but means you often times are on your own to get your child services.
