Waiting to Adopt

Florida resident new to to adoption

Hello everyone! My husband and I have been thinking about adopting for a year now. We finally decided to get started on our journey. But we’re having a hard time with the first step. We would like to do a domestic newborn adoption. We don’t really mind either gender, and we have no gender preference either. I personally wouldn’t mind an Asian baby, but more important for us is to have a healthy newborn. I also would prefer not to get one with medical issues, I work in healthcare, and it will burn me out.

Just a few questions for the ones who’ve gone through it. Hopefully in Florida.

What agency did you work with (that you liked)? How long did it take, including the Home study? And how much did it cost?

Has anyone used The Adoption Consultancy? Did it make the process easier?

Thank you!

Hi There:
I was living in NC when I adopted but now live in FL, and my daughter was born in FL. We used a national agency. I had one brief correspondence with The Adoption Consultancy and felt her prices were high. We are currently beginning stages for a possible 2nd adoption and have been working with The Adoption Mentor who is in FL. Her email is .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We have gained a lot just from one phone consult with her so far.

We adopted through American Kidz out of St Petersburg,  FL 3.5 yrs ago. They’re a small agency but very sweet and hard working. Our process only took 2.5 months but that’s super uncommon I think. Our bmom was already 30 weeks pregnant when we matched! We got alot of info from American adoptions which is a national agency but ultimately went with a smaller, more coat effective agency. Good luck!!
