We did not use an agency; we used Aaron Britvan (an attorney) in Woodbury, NY (Long Island).  He was great!  Very professional, knowledgeable & experienced.  Good luck to you both in your adoption journey!

We are using Bethany Christian agency. The office is based out of Fair Lawn, NJ but they also have a satellite office in New York City.  We have been impressed with them from the start. They offer extensive counseling to expectant mothers and also provide us educational seminars.  We have found the information to be invaluable. We have been waiting almost a year for a domestic newborn.  Good luck to the both of you.

I used Spence Chapin Agency in Manhattan. They were wonderful to work with and offer great events for adoptive families and workshops even after the adoption is finalized.

We used Adoption STAR as well and have many friends who have adopted through them at least once. Our son just turned 2.  We plan to use them again for #2 in the next few years.  Good luck!! 

I used Aaron Britvan for independent adoption but was ultimatly unsuccessful. He is very profession and fair (and an adoptive dad) but I did find that in some confusing moments his advice was not as helpful as I would have liked. I think he would be great if your situation were fairly straightforward.
We are now hoping for success by using multiple agencies and working with Nicole Witt at the The Adoption Consultancy.

We are using Bethany Christian Services out of Albany.  Have been impressed with their professionalism and their work.  We are almost “paper pregnant” and excited to start looking for a match!

We decided to find some out of state authorized agencies to register with as well as use a NY attorney.  Beware of good reviews of places with no specific information also.

We are just beginning the adoption process and are wondering - if we have our home study completed through a private company, can we use it regardless of whether we decide to adopt privately or through an agency? Or is it better to select an agency or attorney first?
