Adoption Agencies (Reviews)

American Adoptions and Lifetime Adoptions

We are looking to sign with an agency this week and are looking at American Adoptions or Lifetime Adoptions. They seem to have all the same services but American is $44,000 to $48,000 and Lifetime is $35,000. Hoping someone can give me reviews on them if they have used either one. And how much it really ended up costing??

PLEASE search this site for Lifetime Adoptions. They are not an agency and they are not at all ethical. This link should work:;.x=0&sa;.y=0&

You can also search this site for American Adoptions. People seem to either love them or hate them. They do charge fees based on the child’s race, which many people - myself included - find racist.;.x=0&sa;.y=0&

Hi! I recently adopted a newborn through American Adoptions. He was born 04/25/17. Our experience was Amazing! We, like everyone else, researched many agencies before deciding on American Adoptions. We too noticed American Adoptions was at the higher end of the cost scale. But, after more research, we did not mind paying a little extra.

We were thoroughly impressed with their professionalism. While the adoption process is never “easy”, American Adoptions was there every step of the way. They almost literally held our hands through everything. We never had to guess, we never had to search for or create a document, we didn’t have to find our own lawyer, we didn’t have to find our own agency for the home study. They handled absolutely everything! In something as sensitive as adoption, we were confident every t was crossed and every i dotted.

While all adoptions are different, our adoption cost about $38,000. American Adoptions was very upfront about the cost. In fact, they actually overestimated and, in the end, we received a small refund. (I can’t say that happens in every case, but they tried their best to Not hit us with “hidden fees”.)

Another reason we liked American Adoptions was because of the level of Respect they have for all parties involved. They spend a lot of time helping to foster bonds between birth mothers and adoptive families. The employees at American Adoptions made us feel that they were personally invested in our journey. We weren’t just another number, another case.

We were on the waiting list 4 months and we were in the Agency Assisted Program. This program is for families seeking to adopt babies of full or partial African American heritage, and yes it is cheaper than their Traditional Program. Across the nation, there is a shortage of families seeking to adopt children of African American heritage born in the US. American Adoptions designed the Agency Assisted Program to bring attention to this need and to help families willing to adopt babies of African American heritage.

I Hope this Helps!

Another thing you might want to consider is, instead of putting all your eggs in one basket, to diversify by applying to multiple agencies with low up front fees, across the country in states with favorable adoption laws. I used a consultant to help me through my journey and that strategy resonated with me. Now, I’M an adoption consultant helping to guide people through their journey. Feel free to message me if you are interested in more info.

We worked with American Adoptions and would not hesitate to recommend them. They were friendly, reliable, ethical and we matched relatively quickly compared to some other agencies. I spoke very briefly with Lifetime and was unimpressed by their ability to return a simple phone call when I was looking at agencies and did not feel they wanted to take any time to answer any questions I might have. Like MommyR I also adopted through their agency assisted program and also received a refund after finalization.
