The rules changed over the years please be sure you did what you needed to do to make your child a citizen. Even if they are “automatically” a citizen there are forms to be done.
When adopting from some countries (those with a 600 application) it is required to go thru adoption proceedings in the US before the child is legitimately adopted in the US. Others (800 application) it is not, however even those there are steps that must be taken and paperwork that should arrive before the process is complete.
Quite frequently the immigration people do nothing unless hounded by the parent for many months. In my daughter’s case (coming on an i 800), I had to contact senators and representatives to intervene before the process was completed as it should have been many months earlier without their help. All the agencies involved told me that other clients with children of similar age had the exact same experience, and also had to resort to the same request for help by government officials before the process could be completed.
I found the news story about Adam Crapser horrifying. Both that he had such a horrendous experience here with his abusive adoptive family, and now this truly inhumane treatment at the hands of the only country he has ever known.
