Adoption waiting process

We registered in CARA on August 2016 to adopt a child from India. It’s been 7 months we didn’t get any referral from CARA. If anybody went through this process what is wait timing and I would like to understand more about adoption waiting process.

I did not adopt from India, but my understanding is that completion of an adoption from India can take anywhere between two and four years, with a significant part of the time spent waiting for a referral.  However, a lot depends on whether one spouse is an NRI or OCI, on the age and health status of the child that you are seeking, and the agency you are using. In general, I believe that the wait for a referral most commonly ranges from six months to 24 months.  Once you have your referral, you will then wait roughly 7 to 12 months to travel and meet your child.

You can get a better idea of current time frames by asking your agency.  I am actually a bit surprised that your agency hasn’t given you estimates already. For a detailed discussion of the process, view the U.S. State Department website at adoption.state.gov.  Go to “country information” in the dropdown box on the right side of the home page and click on India.  When you get to the India page, click on “expand all” and begin reading.

Hi, this is a late reply but it does take few months to get a referral. We adopted from India and it took a significant amount of time especially to obtain the court order from the judge. It’s a long process that requires patience. Hope i answered your question.

Please avail counselling session from FoJ Counsellors who can guide you on the preferences, wait time and other useful information related to adoption.

You can book your counselling appointment online for in-person counselling at their various locations in India or even a Tele Counselling session from anywhere in India.
