Adoption Consultant

Hi Everyone,
I’m curious if anyone used an adoption consultant and their thoughts.  Was it worth the money?  Are they legit or should I just navigate the waters myself?

Thanks!

Hi we used an agency because our situation involved adoption in another state.  We also hired an agency in the state we were adoption from to give the birth mom free services and counseling.

There are different laws regarding TPR varying from Agency, Attorney, Consultant.  In my area if you use a consultant you would also use in conjunction with an attorney.  For example if we had used an attorney in the state we were adopting from it was 30 days or more from TPR that the birth mother could change her mind, with the agency it was only 7 days if I am remembering correctly.

Hope this helps.  We loved our agency, they had wonderful classes, a great home study and counseling resources for my husband and myself as ours got a little tricky.

Good luck

I would definitely seek guidance; there are so many things to consider, and every state has different laws- you want to make sure you’re prepared.  I can recommend someone who lives in the Chicagoland area but serves individuals throughout the country: Rebecca Gruenspan, RG Adoption Consulting, (http://www.rgadoptionconsulting.com/).  We met her after we already signed up with an agency, but I know other individuals who’ve used her and rave about her services; if we decide to adopt again, I would 100% use her.

Dina S not like it’s an ad or something

You’re right, Maryam, this isn’t an Ad… it’s not my organization, and I get no benefit from promoting it.

I’m curious to know what your recommendation is to the original question posed?
