2 infant adoptions within a year?
Are there any laws against adopting two infants from different states within a year? I suppose the homestudy would have to be updated after baby #1 comes home. The agency we are with won’t place a child in a home that has a child under one year old. Is that just an agency decision, or are there laws related to it?

I’m not sure about all the various states and their laws, but we did it. Although our children have the same birth mother. The children are 13 months apart. One adoption was completed in April 2009 in Texas (6 months to finalization) and the second in December 2009 in Kansas (45 days to finalization).
But I do know of a couple of adoptive parents who adopted two unrelated infants less than a year apart. One couple adopted from two different agencies. They had applied for both and infants were placed with them about 4 months apart. The second couple adopted a second baby from the same agency when their first child was about 6 months old. So it definitely happens.
I’m not an expert, but I know that our agency won’t let you sign again until your first adoption is finalized. Which I think is usually three to six months after placement. I’m almost possitive this is an agency decision. In our case I wanted to try for a second right away and because we adopted from Arkansas and finalized 11 days after our first was born our agency said that we could. Getting my husband to agree and coming up with the money was another story. I will say that it’s been eighteen months and we still have not signed with them again. I really regret that we have waited.
My agency has rules against is, if I were to get pregnant, the adoption process would be halted until after the child is born and is (I think) a year. And I can’t be in the process to adopt two at the same time. I definitely want two, but since I can’t afford daycare for two at the same time and I’ll be a single mother working out side of the home, it wouldn’t make sense for me to try.
