Breast feeding after adoption

We have just barely started our journey through adoption, though after some very helpful articles from here and books we’ve been reading, we know that a Newborn Domestic adoption is the direction we will be heading.

My question is for anyone that has or would like to breast feed after the adoption.  Did it work for you?  What are the pro’s/cons you have experienced?

I can only think of the good that could come from it.  But I would like to discuss with others that have or area considering it…

Thanks!

My dh & I are waiting to adopt domestically and I have chosen to breastfeed.  I am going the all natural route without the use of modern meds and just using herbs and pumping.  I have begun the herbs and have only pumped once but I refuse to give up.  I will began pumping more regularly now that I’ve been on the herbs for a week.  Once we are matched, I will start a strict schedule of pumping at specific intervals during the day.

It’s a lot of work I know but I feel that if I were able to conceive a child myself, I would definately bf and I want to so I will do everything in my power to do so for any babies I have, no matter how they come to me.

There’s a really great website with all kinds of info for both bf all natural and with modern meds.  It’s kellymom.com.

Best wishes on your adoption journey!

I personally have not breastfed any of my children but I know women who have.  Some of them pumped while waiting to be matched with their child and had a freezer full of milk ready once their match occurred.  I was jealous of all the money they saved from not buying formula!
