Going on Vacation

Hello, all! I just joined and am happy to be part of this community. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with going on vacation while you’re waiting for “the call.” We go with my husband’s family every year to a remote lake where the cell phone reception is spotty. I don’t want to sit at home by the phone, but I am very anxious that we will miss a call while we’re away. Does anyone have any insight on this kind of situation? Thanks!

We struggled with this decision as well.  I asked our social worker for advice and she she told us to go ahead, thst we had put our lives on hold for too long with infertility treatments.  Everything worked out for the best, as we went on a 5 day cruise and then were matched 6 weeks later.  It was nice to have that one last trip, just my husband and I.  However, had we taken it later, then we may have missed the call b/c our match was a same day one.  Since adopting our daughter, I believe that everything happens for a reason, but I also believe that you cannot put your life on hold while you wait.

We had the same concern when we went on vacation in May.  We advised our agency and attorney reps that we would check our cell phone each day (every 24 hours).  Everyone felt this was sufficient.  As it turned out, we were contacted for a match while on vacation and got the news on a voice mail message.  When we called back, we were able to set a time the following afternoon to chat with the birthmother by phone and were chosen!

I’m so glad we took the vacation… we needed it!  It’ll will be our last vacation as a couple since our baby is now due within 4 weeks!

Go have fun!
